The Emergency Medical Technician course is an in-depth course in basic life support which addresses the following areas of study:
Anatomy and physiology
Basic Cardiac Life Support
CPR
Semi-Automatic External Defibrillation
Airway management and oxygen administration
Bandaging and wound care
Vehicle extrication
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
The course involves approximately 120 hours of classroom participation where attendance is mandatory. The course meets or exceeds current DOT Guidelines and has Massachusetts OEMS approval.
EMT-Intermediate
The EMT-Intermediate course is an in-depth course in basic and advanced life support which addresses the following areas of study:
Anatomy and physiology
Basic Cardiac Life Support
CPR
Semi-Automatic External Defibrillation
Advanced airway management
Intravenous access and fluid resuscitation
Bandaging and wound care
Vehicle extrication
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
The course involves approximately 100 hours of classroom participation where attendence is mandatory. In addition to this requirement, the course involves over 100 hours of clinical study in an emergency room. The student must have at least one years experience as an EMT-Basic
Students will work under the direct supervision of registered nurses to ensure their thorough knowledge of the subject matter. Clinical rotations include the following:
Emergency Room (advanced patient assessment and IV initiation)
Operating Room (advanced airway techniques, i.e. endotracheal intubation)
EMT-Paramedic
The EMT-Paramedic course is an in-depth course in advanced pre-hospital life support which addresses the following areas of study:
In depth approach to Anatomy and physiology
Advanced Cardiac Life Support
Cardiac Treatment and Modalities
Medication Administration
Advanced Airway management
Vehicle extrication
Technical Rescue familiarization
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support
The course involves approximately 300 hours of classroom participation where attendance is mandatory. In addition to this requirement, the course involves over 400 hours of clinical study. Students clinical studies will be in all of the following areas:
Emergency Room (assessment, IV, medication administration)
Operating Room (advanced airway management)
Critical and Intensive Care Units (advanced airway techniques and medication administration)
Pediatrics (patient assessment and familiarization)
Psychiatrics (assessment of emotionally and mentally ill)
CMED (introduction to medical dispatch)
PHTLS (BLS & ALS)
This National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) course is a twenty hour courses intended to teach the student the principles of rapid assessment and extrication from vehicles. The course specializes in giving the student the knowledge to assess a situation and make a rapid informed determination of a patients condition and their need for rapid extrication and transportation. This course is offered in a basic and advanced level and the two can be combined for a realistic approach.
