Entry Level EMT Course Information
The Entry Level Emergency Medical Technician course is an in-depth course in basic life support which, upon completion, the student will be proficiant in the following:
- Discuss policies, rules and regulations related to emergency medical services.
- Identify medical and legal issues involved in emergency medical services.
- Identify terminology used in the medical field.
- Discuss safety measures to maintain the well-being of the EMT.
- Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills with emergency medicine team.
- Assess vital signs and patient history.
- Demonstrate initial, focused, and ongoing assessment of patients.
- Relate knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology to EMT-Basic practice.
- Recognize common methods of injury (MOI).
- Demonstrate EMT-Basic skills in managing head, facial, spinal, chest, abdominal and extremity trauma.
- Discuss management of environmental emergencies.
- Demonstrate effective skills in triage and incident command.
- Demonstrate EMT-Basic skills in pediatric, geriatric and gynecologic emergencies.
- Utilize critical thinking in managing patient scenarios.
The course involves approximately 120 hours of classroom participation where attendance is mandatory. The course meets or exceeds current DOT Guidelines and has Massachusetts OEMS approval.
